Good dental habits built early can last a lifetime. Your child’s needs change with age, and so should their oral care routine.
👶 Infants: Begin by wiping your baby’s gums with a clean, damp cloth after each feeding — this helps reduce bacteria and get your baby used to oral cleaning.
Once the first tooth erupts, switch to a soft silicone finger brush or a baby toothbrush. Finger brushes are gentle on the gums and give you better control, especially in the early months. Use a tiny smear (rice-grain size) of fluoride toothpaste and brush twice a day — ideally after the morning feed and before bedtime.
As more teeth come in, you can transition to a baby toothbrush with a small head and soft bristles.
🧒 Toddlers & Preschoolers: Brush twice daily with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. Supervise brushing and help them learn the right technique. Avoid letting them swallow the toothpaste.
👧👦 Ages 6 and above: Encourage independence in brushing and introduce flossing once teeth begin touching. A fluoride mouth rinse may also be introduced if advised by your dentist.
🪥 Replace toothbrushes every 3 months or sooner if the bristles are worn. Let kids pick their brush — fun colors or cartoon designs often motivate better brushing!
